Why I'm Building
Who I am
Hi.
I'm Miguel Quijano.
Mexa.
34 years old. (Still just a bb el chamaco.)
This is a little explanation of why I do what I do.
I consider myself two things:
A builder.
And someone who's genuinely in love with life.
To me, those two things are deeply connected.
At the end of the day, we spend most of our lives working. Sure, we all need to pay rent, eat and keep a roof over our heads. But I believe work should mean something beyond survival.
Without getting too existential, I think a big part of life's meaning comes from what we choose to build every single day.
Entrepreneurship
To me, entrepreneurship isn't just about starting a company.
It's falling in love with uncertainty.
It's having a slightly toxic relationship with risk.
It's starting something nobody asked you to build.
It's believing things can be done differently.
It's trying to hack the system.
And yes...
It's probably about being just a little crazy.
Because you have to be a little crazy to dedicate years of your life to an idea that doesn't exist yet.
There are very few feelings I enjoy more than this:
Having an idea.
Writing it down.
Building it.
Failing.
Trying again.
And one day...
Watching it become real.
That process feels like a small personal high.
I've always believed that if something created by humans can be considered art because it brings beauty into the world...
Then a company can be a work of art too.
That's why I think entrepreneurs are artists. We just happen to use ideas, products, strategy, people and an unhealthy amount of coffee instead of paintbrushes.
You vs. You.
There's a line from a poem I love:
"Man was born to fight, just as birds were born to fly."
I've never interpreted it as a fight against other people.
The real battle has always been against yourself.
Trying to become just a little better than the version of yourself from yesterday.
Brand
Interestingly enough, one word has followed me throughout my entire career: Brand.
I've spent more than ten years working in marketing, and I eventually realized that a brand is so much more than a logo or a nice color palette.
A brand is an idea that lives in someone's mind.
And I believe people can build that too.
Not to become famous.
But to leave something meaningful behind.
Something that outlives us.
In Mexico, we have a beautiful way of thinking about death.
You only truly die when people forget you.
Maybe we learned it from Coco.
Maybe from our grandparents.
Maybe from history.
I've always loved that idea. Not because I want to live forever. But because I believe ideas can.
Building something that continues helping people long after you're gone feels like a different kind of immortality.
Travel.
And that's where my other obsession comes in:
Because travel breaks you.
Then rebuilds you.
It forces you to question everything you thought you knew.
But most importantly... it introduces you to people you would've never met if you had stayed home.
And more often than not, those people end up changing your life more than the places themselves.
After spending more than a decade working across marketing, technology and hospitality, I realized my two biggest passions had always been the same:
Building.
And traveling.
That's why I'm building Roamie. Not because tourism is a massive industry. I'm building it because I believe the best stories in someone's life usually begin the moment they decide to leave home.
My dream is simple:
Help more people live those stories.
This website isn't here to sell you a course. Or consulting. Or tell you I wake up at 5 AM.
It's here to document the journey.
To share everything I'm learning while trying to build a global company from Latin America.
Some weeks will be incredible.
Others will be painfully difficult.
I want to document both.
Because the full story will always be more valuable than the final outcome.
I hope that a few years from now, someone lands on this page and can trace the entire journey from the very beginning.
The mistakes.
The wins.
The trips.
The people.
The ideas.
And realize that companies are rarely built in one defining moment. They're built through thousands of small decisions that almost nobody gets to see.
And who knows...
Maybe one day, one of the ideas I build will find a permanent place in someone else's mind.
If even one person leaves this website inspired to build something, travel a little further or see the world from a different perspective...
Then this entire journey will have been worth it.
Welcome.
